What is 2xTRA?

2xTRA (Technology Transfer Research Results Atlantic Area) is a project whose aim is to contribute to increase the innovation capability of different competence-poles in the European Atlantic Area, by means of the improvement in the Technology Transfer processes and the increasing of their trans-nationality along the Atlantic Area.

WHO CARRIES IT OUT?

The project is carried out by a strong partnership involving 13 entities which manage Innovation and Technology Transfer activities, key players in this matter of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, France and Spain.
The different organisations constituting the consortium are Universities, Technology Institutes, Private Consultants and new TBC Incubators that, having different specialisations, work in a wide variety of regional innovation systems with different practices in Technology Transfer management.

HOW IS IT FUNDED?

The 2xTRA project is co-funded under the European Community’s Interreg IIIB programme for the Atlantic Area.

WHAT ISSUES DOES THE PROJECT ADDRESS?

2xTRA addresses the most relevant issues for each participating region, leading to:

  • a better knowledge of the scientific and technology potential of the participant regions, allowing the adoption of new sustainable strategies to each of them,
  • a closer collaboration between R&D organisations, universities and technology-based companies, improving the Technology Transfer processes.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE BEING CARRIED OUT?

Seven tasks planned within three main steps are being carried out, improving Technology Transfer processes, and positively impacting on the innovation systems of all the regions along the European Atlantic Area.

GOALS TO BE REACHED

These tasks to be performed will lead the partnership to reach three main specific objectives of the project:

  1. Exchange of good practices in Technology Transfer (TT) management, in order to improve the capabilities of the partners themselves, and to have an impact on their regional innovation systems.
  2. Promotion of new technology-based companies, by means of adapting experiences and developing methodologies, in respect to: (1) identification of business ideas, (2) supporting the elaboration of business plans, (3) helping the internationalisation of the new companies that have been incubated.
  3. Implementation of an Atlantic Network for giving support and promote the creation of Technology Based Companies (TBC) as a particularly promising practice in Technology Transfer.
