Navarra has varied microclimates, which, together with its soils makes it a privileged land for the growing of grapes.

There are over 13,000 vineyards under the Denomination of Origin Navarra, which has been gradually subjected to intense renovations, both in terms of growing techniques and in terms of new grape varieties.
To the traditional grape varieties (Garnacha, Tempranillo and Viura) have been added, this last decade, such renowned varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for red wines and Chardonnay for whites wines.
By joining those vines, the enologists gave place to a wide range of varieties of wines well balanced, modern, with personality and really different from the others.

The Denomination is divided in 5 different sub-areas:

BAJA MONTAÑA
The area of Baja Montaña is located in the Northwest of Navarra and includes 22 municipalities where about 2,500 hectares of vineyards are planted. During the last years, they have produced an average of 6,000 kg of grapes per hectare. The sub-humid climate of this area is appropriate to a good elaboration of rosé wines.

TIERRA ESTELLA
Located in Navarra's West-central area, it extends along the Road of Compostela. It includes 38 municipalities with a total of 1,795 hectares of vineyard, which has produced over the last years an average yield of 4,900 kg per hectare. Its has a sub-humid climate. This area is known to have wines of a unique character.

VALDIZARBE
Located in Middle Navarra, it is the Navarran heart of the road of Santiago. This area includes 25 municipalities where slightly more then 1,000 hectares of vineyard are planted. During the last 6 years, they have produced an average yield of 6,000 kg per hectare.
Its geographical location makes it a transitional area between the humid North of Navarra and the semi-arid southern lands, with vineyards that offer excellent results.

RIBERA ALTA
Ribera Alta is located between the humid Navarra and the beginning of the southern Navarra, around its main centre, the historical town of Olite.
Its 26 municipalities have slightly over 3,000 hectares of vineyards. Over the last years they have produced an average of 4,600 kg per hectare yield.

RIBERA BAJA
Located in South Navarra, it has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate. This sub-area has the greatest area of vineyards and the largest number of winery.
There are 14 municipalities in Ribera Baja where slightly more than 4,500hectares of vineyards are planted. Over the last year, they have produced and average yield of 6,643 kg per hectare.
