Under an initiative of the Government of Navarra,
the Viticulture and Enology Research Station was created in Olite
in 1980.
EVENA is an autonomus organisation which aim
is to gather almost all the activities related directly or not to
the wine-production area. Its main objectives are to make the sector
more professional, incorporate new technologies and carry out research
and experiments about how to adapt new vines.
This organisation also colaborates with other oficial centers of
investigation.
One of its funcion is to control wine production
in Navarra and qualify and disqualify some of them. It is also a
consulting center which tents to solve the wine growing problems
of Navarra.
The Station has two distinctive areas with
various functions:

- Resolve wine-growing problems.
- Aquirer a full aknowledge of the
wine-growing.
- Investigate and experiment.
- Divulgate and advice.
- Professionalize the wine-growing sector.
The area of oenology:
- Controls the maturity of wines.
- Oenoligical experiments.
- Investigates.
- Provide trainings for the oenologists.
